FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Useful things to know before your jump
Find answers to common questions about contact lenses, glasses, clothing, head protection, training, age requirements and static line jump altitude.
I wear contact lenses, can I jump with them?
Yes. For Tandem and Accelerated free fall you will get a pair of goggles which protect your eyes in freefall.
If you do the Static Line course and subsequent jumps, please pre-arrange with Manifest or the Equipment Officer to get a pair of goggles to jump with.
I wear glasses. Will it be a problem?
Yes, no problem. A larger, over-the-glasses goggle is available for freefall jumps.
For Static Line you could also use these goggles or simply tie a retaining strap or elastic to the glasses.
What do I need to take with me?
Be comfortable. A pair of running shoes is recommended. For Static Line, protective clothing such as jeans and a sweater is advised.
If you do Accelerated free fall, you’ll be given a jumpsuit to use, so shoes are the most important item to bring.
Tandem can be done in a t-shirt and shorts, but it may be cold at altitude. Bring sunscreen and something warm or waterproof for after the jump.
What about head protection?
All students doing Accelerated free fall or Static Line are required to wear a hard helmet, which will be issued to you with your parachute.
How often must I jump to stay current?
Currency is a very important safety factor in skydiving. It is important to jump as often as possible to remain current.
Please check the safety and training section for detailed currency requirements.
What do I get for the First Jump Course?
Excellent training by professional instructors, plus Parachute Association of South Africa membership until you qualify for an A License. This could be after 25 jumps, if you pass all your skydives.
How old must I be before I can skydive?
You must be at least 16 years old for student training. Persons younger than 21 years will require written and signed consent from their legal guardian.
Tandem skydivers can be younger than 18, but written consent will also be required.
What height do Static Line jumpers exit from?
Static Line jumpers exit the aircraft at an altitude of 3,500ft AGL — Above Ground Level.
